"When we had our children, our ideas changed somewhat. Thenceforward we lived only for them; they made all our happiness and we would never have found it save in them. In fact, nothing any longer cost us anything; the world was no longer a burden to us. As for me, my children were my great compensation, so that I wished to have many in order to bring them up for Heaven" -- Saint Zelie Martin, mother of St. Therese of Lisieux, canonized October 18, 2015 along with her husband St. Louis Martin.

Honey

I am Winnie-the-Pooh

Thanks to my amazing Mother-in-Law who shipped two boxes of raw New Mexican honey up north for us.  Since there would be no way for me to keep this on my dining room table, I also get to thank her for my newly cleaned pantry! Best find? An unopened can of baking powder that expired in 2016.    Unopened.  I blush with shame.

Early November Musings (posted late, per usual)

Years and years ago I had a rude shock when daylight savings hit.  I must have hit that place when I had more children and they were getting older, and louder.  Long, long evening hours of darkness weighed very heavy on me as the after-dinner football games were played in my living room and I desperately wanted to put the family to bed at 5:30pm!

Then I read a blog post which forever re-framed my approach to daylight savings.  I cannot even remember the blog or the woman who wrote it, but she spoke about firelight's warm glow.  She wrote about long evening hours of doing history homework, allowing more time for play during the day.  And she wrote about her kitten chirping a hello as her husband came home in the evening.

I could never forget that kitten.  More than once, I have gotten a kitten.  Wilma is for keeps!

After loosing our piano teacher to an overly busy schedule, we happily were able to start up again this month.  That wonderful teacher had found some help and helped us dive right into Christmas music to learn in time for Christmas.  Bilbo and Galadriel are working on a duet.  I couldn't be more thrilled.

Knowing my obsession to house plants, that I owe almost entirely to my good friend who years back convinced me that they were important for keeping healthy through the winter months, I had to post the Christmas "tree" that I picked up at Lowe's.  It is sprayed with glitter, and I simply couldn't resist the sparkles!!

I put it in our schoolroom, where Wilma seemed to enjoy it as much as I do!

Speaking of Wilma in the schoolroom, this is also where I keep our aquarium.  You know cats and fish, right?  Does she look guilty?

The fish are safe because of the aquarium cover, but she does sit and watch.  Carefully.

My girls out for a ladies brunch in honor of my Mom's birthday.  We were the first to arrive, and I just cannot miss an opportunity to capture special moments like these.  Life goes by too quickly.

Which is why we celebrated the first snow of the season with hot chocolate all around!!  From you-know-where, which I officially boycott, but broke down due to the mini-sized kids cups and specialness of such a treat for the kids.

Cheers!
My labradoodle loves the snow.  Always has.
Finally a chance to sport our winter coats and hats and scarves in style!

And one little boy who could use a hat...and scarf and gloves.
Working on snowmen, at about 7am here...

And in the schoolroom, a tea party must be documented.  It's the first one in which a cat was hosted.

What a lady! Wilma is pretty much adored by all around here.

Finding her asleep on the chair in the sun is pretty much exactly how she prefers to spend her time.  Me too, not that I get to, but doesn't that look lovely?!

That's your update!
